Star Wars Galaxies ended its Pre-Combat Upgrade era in 2005. SWGEmu spent the years since rebuilding that version of the game, and with its 1.0 release the baseline is complete. New Foundations starts there and keeps going.
NFS runs on the SWGEmu Core3 engine and NFS's own upgraded 14.1 client, hosted by SWGRealms. The team's development work is closed-source, so changes are published here as developer diaries rather than as a public commit log, much as the original studio published patch notes.
The guiding idea since the first diary has been to embrace the vanilla Pre-CU experience while fixing the shortcomings the 14.1 game never addressed. The "1.0+" ideas tested on the private server are meant to make the game more broadly enjoyable for every kind of player, from explorers and socializers to crafters and combatants.
Some of that work is visible already: Jump to Lightspeed with all nine squadrons, a fully populated Kashyyyk, Nova Orion Station as a tutorial and central hub, multipassenger vehicles, drifting weather systems, and a long list of balance and quality-of-life changes to crafting, vendors, buffs and armor. Much of the altered and new content is deliberately kept a mystery, to be discovered the way the game was in 2003.
Closed Alpha 1 began Friday, October 9, 2026 and runs for roughly two weeks with a defined scope. The next call for testers will be posted in the developer diary.

NFS's own build of the last Pre-CU client, extended with new assets and systems.
